about

Starting with the large 48" Zildjian tam tam, various cymbals are introduced and the Moog Sonic Six quietly moves in unnoticed. Several Wuhan wind gongs are used, and some of the cymbals are riveted. Quiet suddenly, the low hum of the oscillators is finally evident, and small cymbals with handles are implemented to rub, scratch and scrape the gongs and larger cymbals. On insufficient speakers (or ear pieces), some of the louder gong sounds can be distorted, but on a better sound system, all these noises should be fairly clear and evident. There are minimal special effects used, and for the most part, it is the natural sounds of metal competing with electronics which completes this composition. Listening in a moving vehicle is not recommended since the added sound elements of the engine, tires and outside sounds tend to mask the softer, quieter parts of this piece. Listening while resting and/or sleeping can be both relaxing and interesting. Dedicated listening results in a mental journey to places unlike ones to which one is accustomed.

lyrics

The darkness retreats before the onslaught of the Sun. Gray clouds drift aimlessly, splintered remnants of an early morning overcast.

I walk alone and my gaze turns to the sky. -Michael David Gilley, 1969
