about

The first in a trio of "Demented Études for A Broken Piano", study number one is the longest and most defined exploration of an antique piano that has previously been neglected. Ken looks for the characteristics of the defects the keyboard and strings have to offer, and exploits them in a painfully obvious manner. Challenging to listen for entertainment.

The interesting thing about these studies is that Ken did not approach a piano that was in tune and well kept in order or "prepare" the instrument for avant garde use, but rather "found" a piano that was already prepared with all the effects and modifications that are normally required for a Prepared Piano composition. In a manner of speaking, this could be called a composition of Found Sounds.
