Breaking with tradition, introduced into this set is a large vintage ride cymbal made by Paiste using a recently re-introduced formula 602. This cymbal is rare and valuable as it is not made now, and it is set up as a suspended cymbal for use with the other tam tam. Plastic and wooden "brushes" are used for softer sounds. The attempt here, after several gong pieces, is to condition the listener to hear the sounds being produced, rather than to just listen to the cymbal itself. The oversized presence of the instrument lends itself to long sustains and interesting overtones. Enjoy.
