about

Originally recorded in October of 2000, this collaboration of two musicians brought together assorted percussion with pre-programmed digital samples from the Emax I combined with Minimoog electronics. "Imagine yourself on a trek along the longest river in Africa...this segment flows north through Egypt and into the Mediterranean Sea." Elastic Collision sought out metal objects of all kinds, starting with the singing bowls of Nepal, and including a Kitchen Aide mixing bowl with everything in between. Traditional instruments include rain sticks, cymbals, hand bells, güira, hand drums, woodblocks, triangles, cacho, kalimba, claves, maracas, shekeres, agogo and energy chimes, finger cymbals and castanets, orchestra bells and gongs. All instruments are played live; there are no over-dubs or multi-track recordings here. Elastic Collision strives to create a new genre here: progressive ambient music.
