about

This recording began with an experiment to record the largest tam-tam available in the studio onto magnetic tape, and then play it in reverse so that the fading harmonics become the beginning and the initial strike the ending. All the various tracks on this recording were manipulated in some way or another on an analog tape reproducer. The result is a very dark and extremely heavy (as in the bass frequencies) sound that places the responder in a state of suspense. A lingering effect that can become addicting must eventually succumb to another mood as the first experiment comes to an end. Gong manufacturers include Zildjian, Paiste, Wuhan and Dobani. If the walls or windows begin to rattle, turn down the subwoofer or the entire volume control.
