about

The songs on this release have been previously released, but not all together as a complete album. Except for "Variant Fraction", which was held over for the later tape "Prism Eye Glass", all the art rock pieces on "Plaster Anvil 2022" appeared on the tapes [released in the early 1980s] called "Frame Of Reference" and "Sense Of Recreation". However, those tapes had electronic music interwoven throughout.

Here now, we have all of Ken's early organ tracks, written in 1970-1974, and recorded in the late 1970s, together as the original "Plaster Anvil" had intended it to be. The tapes have been filtered with noise reduction, and are quite clear except for some small magnetic tape artifacts. Some tracks were released on the Minas Tirith album "Centrifugal Force", but those had been treated with an old Behringer Denoiser. Also the original tape had included some tracks from a later period, a tape called "Prism Eye Glass". Those are included as bonus tracks, along with "Blue Dexter".

The name Plaster Anvil had been used again in the early 1990s for a cassette release on CMC's AfterTouch Discoveries. That album was resurrected on Bandcamp just a few years ago with the name "EsCaPe", to avoid any confusion. It was found that there may have been a tape that included "Xanthic" on the second Plaster Anvil (which was mostly Emax material), but that version likely did not reach any consumers.

These tracks were developed over nearly a decade, from early live practices [the writing period] to adding synthesizer and then drum parts [which took 5 years to master], and then being released as part of Anvil Creations' early mail order catalogs. Ken had tried to revive that process with later tapes "The Chess Kingdom" and "Prism Eye Glass", but the real world conditions did not make it entirely possible. The closest he ever came to making progressive music was the Moore/Myers duo who were able to record "Reaching Beyond The Sphere" successfully.

Most of the songs on Plaster Anvil 2022 were performed by Ken's second Captain Felix band, which was a trio with Dave Rest and Jim Roman from 1971-1973.
